Conveying Good Will: Conveyor Safety Tips for Industrial Workers

Hi, my name is Brooke, and I used to run the HR department in a factory. I filed a lot of injury reports and helped a tragic number of people make claims for workers' compensation or WorkCover. In many cases, the accidents involved convener belts. By seeing what not to do, I really learned what should be done in terms of conveyor safety. I love writing and wanted to convey some good will to the world through a blog – I also love puns. In this space, I plan to post on conveyor belt safety as well as other posts related to a range of industrial equipment. I hope these posts help to protect you and your workers.

Things You Can Get At a Materials Handling Equipment Store

by Ceyda Graumans

If you are thinking about opening business in which you will be running a factory, warehouse or operations facility, you will likely need to contract with a materials handling equipment store. Here are some of the things you can buy or rent from this type of store.

Stackers -- Stackers are a piece of equipment that lets you stack a load of goods and then roll it to another location. Stackers usually resemble dollies, but they have adjustable fork tines sticking horizontally from the vertical posts at the bottom of what you would see in a traditional dolly. Most stackers are equipped with overload protection through a pressure valve, and they are either manual or electric. Electric stackers operate with a motor that lets the operator move the fork tines up and down without having to use their own power. They also feature brakes on the main wheels to prevent the stacker from rolling as it is stacked with material. For greater flexibility, you can invest in a convertible stacker, which has wheels on the mast that lets you use the stacker as a trolley.

Pallet Jacks -- Pallet jacks are the most effective way for you to stack and unstack pallets. Because nearly every warehouse or factory uses pallets to pack goods and material, a pallet jack is a valuable piece of equipment. Pallet jacks have vertical handles and wheels with long forks that slide under pallets and hold them securely. You can select pallet jacks based on the length of pallets you are using. Standard pallet jacks handle the most widely-manufactured pallet size, but you can also buy a long-fork pallet jack for pallets in larger, non-standard sizes. Pallet jacks are sold in manual and electric-drive styles, and you can also buy galvanized steel pallets which are anti-corrosive and much more durable.

Multi-Trolley -- A multi-trolley is a piece of materials handling equipment designed for one-person use. It is made from aluminium and has a square base with four wheels and four removable vertical poles, one at each corner. Multi-trolleys are used to move doors, tables, beds, desks, boards and machines. They are ideal for warehouse, plant and factory use, and they feature brakes and protective rubber on the poles Multi-trolleys allow a single worker to transport equipment that would normally take two or more people to carry, making the frequent moving of materials around your business much more efficient.
