Conveying Good Will: Conveyor Safety Tips for Industrial Workers

Hi, my name is Brooke, and I used to run the HR department in a factory. I filed a lot of injury reports and helped a tragic number of people make claims for workers' compensation or WorkCover. In many cases, the accidents involved convener belts. By seeing what not to do, I really learned what should be done in terms of conveyor safety. I love writing and wanted to convey some good will to the world through a blog – I also love puns. In this space, I plan to post on conveyor belt safety as well as other posts related to a range of industrial equipment. I hope these posts help to protect you and your workers.

3 Types of Air Conditioning Filters

by Ceyda Graumans

Filters are essential accessories in the air conditioning system designed to remove particulate dust, fibres and debris from the air. The right filter will improve the indoor air quality in your home and limit the occurrence of respiratory complications and allergic reactions to elements such as fur and pollen.

You should change this component in the system periodically to prevent accumulation of debris and grime. The frequency will depend on the total usage of the air conditioner but you should never allow dirt to build up on the filter. There are diverse AC filter products in the market so choosing the best one for your system can be challenging. Here are the main types of filters to consider installing in your residential air conditioning system.

Standard Filters

Standard air filters are relatively cheap and widely available so they are popular among residential consumers. These products are made from synthetic materials and they trap the dust and debris within their structural fibres. They are disposable so you will need to purchase replacements often to maintain the indoor air quality.

The most common example of standard air filters is the fibreglass filter. It is made from layered fibres which are designed to form a filtration mesh. They are also reinforced with rigid metal grating to minimise the risk of collapse. Polyester filters are more effective than fibreglass alternatives in terms of filtration efficiency. The mesh in this material is more refined so it has superior dust holding capabilities.

Electrostatic and Electronic Filters

Electrostatic filters are designed to intrinsically generate static charges which attract dust particles, fur and other small pieces of debris. The products are generally manufactured using polypropylene or similar polymer materials encased within a cardboard or galvanised structure. This design is responsible for promoting the production of the static energy.

Electronic filters are alternatives which utilise electricity to attract the air contaminant particles. The ionising energy is effective such that it can get rid of small molecules like smoke and mold. You should note that electronic filters are very expensive compared to most of the other products in the residential air conditioning market.

HEPA Filters

High-efficiency particulate air filters are disposable products designed to offer the highest degree of filtration efficiency. The system targets the minute air contaminant particles and general pollutants that will escape other filters. The fibres are made from thin, compressed fibres which are randomly arranged to form the filtration surface. Different materials can be used to manufacture the materials but fibreglass is popularly available in most stores.
