Conveying Good Will: Conveyor Safety Tips for Industrial Workers

Hi, my name is Brooke, and I used to run the HR department in a factory. I filed a lot of injury reports and helped a tragic number of people make claims for workers' compensation or WorkCover. In many cases, the accidents involved convener belts. By seeing what not to do, I really learned what should be done in terms of conveyor safety. I love writing and wanted to convey some good will to the world through a blog – I also love puns. In this space, I plan to post on conveyor belt safety as well as other posts related to a range of industrial equipment. I hope these posts help to protect you and your workers.

A Buyer's Guide for Laminate Flooring

by Ceyda Graumans

The popularity of laminate flooring has risen significantly over the last few years. This manufactured product is an ideal choice for both residential and commercial properties because it is resilient and highly durable. The material is available in a range of designs and grades and it is relatively cheap. Moreover, laminate boards are light and easy to install so you can perform the task without professional assistance. If you are thinking about upgrading your building's flooring, consider these factors when choosing laminate material.

Appearance

The laminate boards can be manufactured to mimic other types of flooring materials for advanced aesthetics. The material has a photographic layer which uses a high resolution image to give the flooring its appearance. Most homeowners prefer laminate that looks like varying species of hardwood but you can select alternatives such as marble, tiles and stone. In addition, you can choose custom decorative patterns or even abstract designs.

Surface Types

The surface finish of laminate flooring will affect the texture and the general style. Normally, buyers will select surfaces that match the photograph used on the boards but this aspect should depend on personal taste. Smooth surfaces are popular in residential buildings because they are comfortable and easy to clean. You can also choose your preferred gloss finish; high, low or medium. Textured and embossed finishes are utilised to copy the natural grain and feel of the appearance. There are also distressed products which are hand-scraped to present an antiquated and well-used look on your floor.

Abrasion Class

The AC rating in laminate flooring is a fairly accurate indicator of the durability and resilience of the material. This is a worldwide standard designed to make certain that the appropriate product in terms of functionality is selected. The factors considered in the testing of the laminate boards include resistance to impact, stains, general abrasions, small burns and moisture. The rating for the flooring is indicated in a series, from AC1 to AC5. AC1 is reserved for light residential installation, AC2 for general home installation and AC3 for high traffic regions such as the kitchen. AC4 and AC5 are ideal for commercial use where the traffic is heavy and constant.

Installation Method

There are different methods of laminate installation and your choice will determine the ease of the chore. You will need commercial adhesives for glued laminate boards but you can choose pre-glued alternatives which will only require moisture to activate the bond. If you are set on DIY installation, purchase the click-and-lock boards; they do not require adhesives.
